TEAM MUGEN
Since 2024, driver Ayumu Iwasa has been competing in the Japanese Super Formula Championship with Team MUGEN. In the same year, as a rookie, he achieved remarkable results, including winning the Rookie of the Year title. He finished 5th in the annual Drivers' Championship standings.
This achievement was not solely due to Iwasa’s talent, but also the result of Team MUGEN's collective effort. Led by Team Principal Hirokatsu Tanaka, and Chief Engineer Tomohiko Koike, who oversees Iwasa’s car, the team consists of five highly skilled mechanics. Their dedication and expertise played a crucial role in fine-tuning Car No. 15 into a machine capable of delivering top-tier results.
At first glance, Super Formula races may seem like a simple display of high-speed racing. However, making a car go fast is an extremely challenging task. Everything, from aerodynamic settings to tire temperature and air pressure, must be meticulously adjusted. Even a 0.01mm change or a 0.1°C difference can disrupt the car's balance. Super Formula engineers and mechanics must possess exceptional technical skills and analyze extensive data to ensure peak performance in every race. It is not just the driver competing; it is a team effort.
Winning the Super Formula Championship requires a perfect synergy between Team MUGEN's superior engineering and Iwasa's driving skills. Racing is a sport where victories are decided by 0.001 seconds, and true success can only be achieved when the entire team works as one.
In 2024, Team MUGEN demonstrated its prowess by securing 2nd place in the Team Championship standings. In March 2025, the Japanese Super Formula Championship kicked off at Suzuka Circuit (Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture). This season, competing under the name Autobacs Team MUGEN, the team is fully committed to claiming the Series Championship title.
